Penoplasty is a surgery to enlarge a penis by changing its tone and appearance, which includes enhancing its shape, size, and function. Such could mean penile lengthening surgery, penile girth enhancement, and/or surgery to stabilize the penis angle for Peyronie’s disease, among other related surgeries. Some individuals require these procedures for medical reasons, and others may seek it for increased sexual enjoyment and self-confidence, but it is extremely important that physicians first screen all patients for any underlying psychological issues prior to considering surgery. Patients must also be given realistic expectations regarding the results and complications.Among those who undergo these surgeries, dissatisfaction with penile size and/or erectile capabilities and decreased quality of life are frequent factors. Complications from penis enlargement recovery can be divided into those that can impact short-term recovery, as well as those that can have a long-term impact on the results and function of these surgeries.

Once discharged from the clinic, patients can stand and walk for short times without over-exerting themselves. The penis enlargement-reduction surgery and the penis frenuloplasty are not major interventions if performed in conjunction with penis enlargement recovery.
What are you going to see during the first weeks?
Wound healing: Contrary to what typically occurs with sutures on the skin, silk sutures result in a minimal release of blood accumulations.
Swelling: The pubic area becomes swollen and the penis is temporarily retracted. After 18 days, this swelling greatly reduces. At the same time, the scrotal area becomes swollen due to the diffusion of absorbed blood from the anatomical area of treatment.
Bruising: In some cases, small blue bruises can form in various areas of the root, but they will disappear within a few weeks.
Discomfort: Pain in the perineal area is minimal, improves quickly, and clears within a few days. It is not necessary to take painkillers.
Swelling of the pubic area becomes very evident and a hematoma forms (there is infiltration of collected blood in the tissues). The hematoma acquires an uneven distribution in the pubic area. The penis is clearly retracted more towards the perineum. Strong pain is never present.
Treatment: Reduce bruising and swelling for various purposes and inhibit the development of infections.
Discomfort: Pain in the pelvis and the top of the scrotum is variable, normally reduced, well-tolerated, and decreases rapidly, settling completely in 4–5 days. This is the result of the intervention and surgical dissection.
Treatment: In this immediate postoperative period, drug therapy is already suggested.
Healing after penis surgery is not solely about the physical healing post-operatively. Patients will also need to adjust emotionally to the increased size of their penis. Many patients are frustrated, sad, or worried when, after a brief period of increase, their penis appears to show a reduction in size. Patients often look ‘inward’ for blame, despite the surgeon’s detailed descriptions during the consultation process about these predictable swings in lymphatic dust and blood swelling. We advise patients that stressing about the healing process will negatively impact their recovery and that the constant mental attention to ‘size’ (a good possibility early in the recovery process) will likely exacerbate the problem. We advise focusing on healing and not on size. Healing after penis surgery should thus be grounded in logic, patience, and a close adherence to the surgeon’s post-op and post-discharge advice.
Some patients are more fixated on the final result and, for these, a support structure involving their partner or perhaps a best friend outside the hospital may provide solace. Some surgeons offer patients the ability to talk to others who have been through the same procedure in order to ask questions. Someone independent of the process is a better option than family members who may also be anxious and stressed. Generally, the impact on intimacy is minimal as it is simply not a possibility in the early phases of healing after penis surgery when patients are in the hospital under bricks and mortar. Many patients are keen to know how soon after discharge from the hospital it is feasible for the sutures and dressed penis to remain hidden in a pool or spa or bubble. In this way, they can privately swim and float in their respective baths safe from prying eyes.
